In early childhood, Honore Daumier moved to Paris with his parents, and since then the boy has a lot of interesting activities - carrying sweets in the grocer's shop, chatting with street sluts, watching someone from the gateway for hours. The father tried in vain to teach his son his craft as a glazier - a difficult, patienceful task was completely not given to the restless teenager, and the case helps to attach him as a messenger to the law office.
The most fascinating activity for young Honore was caricature drawing, and his first models - the older boys in the neighboring streets - often took revenge on the young cartoonist, his quick drawings were so accurate and funny. The directness and cheerful, impudent character of Honore brings him close to famous people and eminent painters such as Delacroix, Granville, Corot. Balzac enthusiastically compared his talent with the muscles of Michelangelo.
In 1832, for a caricature of King Louis Philippe, depicted as an ugly pear, which in French is consonant with the word fool, Daumier is imprisoned for six months. However, the many works created there and his fame as a brilliant cartoonist only increases the artist’s popularity, and he goes free with a lot of offers to work in satirical publications.
From the end of the 18th century, the French government was in a deep political and economic crisis, which provoked bloody revolutionary movements on several occasions, and Daumier's satirical art inspired the indignant masses to rebel against the current royal and parliamentary elite. As a newspaper employee, the artist could spend hours in the Legislative Chamber of the Bourbon Palace, where he studied the behavior of politicians, their conversations and the entire system of parliamentary power in France.
Honore Daumier created the Legislative Womb of his best lithography in 1834. MPs are seated on it at amphitheater, in vivid and accurate miniature copies of which anyone could recognize a famous politician or greedy corrupt official. Some stared blankly at the ceiling, others poisoned each other with entertaining bikes, while others openly poked around their nose. Fatty, ugly and repulsive faces, heavy figures, the chairman clearly forgot where he is and what he should say - like in a huge stomach, they absorb everything that the people have earned, dumping their undigested sewage on it.
Parisians eagerly awaited the work of the fearless master, rejoiced at sharp and apt criticism, openly laughed with him. The master worked on each of his work, as on a work of art. Like the famous pictorial image of Don Quixote that he created, the knight, without fear and reproach, Honore Daumier fought all his life with the corrupt elite of society and with the kings, he was always in solidarity with the aspirations of ordinary people and constantly confirmed his own words about the need to belong to his time.
